Compliance

Which solar inverters are NRS 097 approved in South Africa?

Use an inverter with a valid NRS 097-2-1 type-test certificate that appears on your municipality’s approved list where one exists (notably City of Cape Town). Common compliant residential hybrid brands in SA include Sunsynk, Deye, GoodWe, Victron, Fronius, SMA, Huawei and similar grid-code-ready lines — always verify the exact model and firmware, not just the brand name.

How to check before you buy

  1. Ask the installer for the NRS 097-2-1 certificate for the exact model.
  2. If you are in Cape Town, check the City’s approved inverter list.
  3. Confirm anti-islanding and backup behaviour match your SSEG application.
  4. Avoid treating “Axpert-style” off-grid boxes as automatically SSEG-compliant.

Brand lists are not forever

Approval is model- and certificate-specific. A brand can have both approved and non-approved SKUs. Your quote should name the model number that will be commissioned.
